Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Valverda holds Ribbon Cutting with Governor, First Lady, and Chairman Steinfield
The National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils awarded Valverda Elementary with a $100,000 Don't Quit! Fitness Center. Governor John Bel Edwards, First Lady Donna Edwards and NFCFC Founder Jake Steinfeld joined the Valverda Kittens for a ribbon cutting and ceremony on Wednesday, October 11.

Steinfeld and Governor Edwards spoke to students about the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle.

Physical Education Teacher, Sara Taylor, nominated the school and was elated when they won the "Don't Quit" Fitness Center."We live in a rural area and our children don't always have opportunities like this in our parish," Taylor said.

The physical fitness grant donated $100,000 worth of equipment for a state of the art Fitness Center for the students to use. Student Ambassadors demonstrated the use of equipment for our special guests.

Valverda Elementary is one of twelve schools in the country to receive the Don't Quit! Fitness Center.
