Saints visit Valverda!
Valverda wins FUEL UP TO PLAY 60 GRANT!
On Friday April 7, Valverda Elementary School hosted a New Orleans Saints Pep Rally and Jr. Training Camp at our school. We hosted this event as we were chosen through a Grant that we received in our Physical Education Department and were awarded through the NFL Program Fuel Up to Play 60 and the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association. Our school reached Touchdown status for the grant and were chosen the Overall Touchdown School for the New Orleans Saints Pep Rally and Jr. Training Camp for the 2016-2017 school year. Valverda Elementary participated in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program and completed all six steps of the Grant requirements to reach Touchdown status. Through the program, our school received a $3,000.00 grant which is sponsored by the National Dairy Council and the National Football League. The event began at 9:30am with a Pep Rally for the entire school in the school gym. This event consisted of awards from the Saints Organization, a check presentation from Fuel Up to Play 60, Pep Rally Games, Cheers, and Chants, and an appearance by Gumbo, the New Orleans Saints Mascot. Following the Pep Rally, 150 students participated in the Jr. Training Camp outside with the Saints Organization. During this training camp, students participated in football training camp stations, received a healthy snack and drink, and were encouraged to live a healthy, active lifestyle through 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
